Journalism is the first rough draft of history.

I have seen history unfold in Canada and Central America, covering local, national and international stories and writing breaking news and news features for The Vancouver Sun, The Globe and Mail (Canada’s national newspaper), The Toronto Star, The Canadian Press (Canada’s national news service) and CBC Radio. I also edited news and news features for The Canadian Press and Broadcast News.

For two years, I covered civil wars in El Salvador and Guatemala for The Globe and Mail and CBC Radio. In Vancouver and Toronto I covered local, provincial and national news, including environment, labour and court beats.

I received the BC Newspapers Awards Jack Wasserman Prize for a news feature on marine biologist Alexandra Morton and in 1994 my coverage of the emerging salmon farming industry on Canada’s Pacific Coast was named one of the 10 most under-reported stories by News Watch Canada.
